Bonjour mes amis! So, you, three fabulous couples, are dreaming of a unique adventure? Virunga National Park in the Democratic Republic of Congo during winter? Magnifique! But before we embark on this incredible journey, let's craft a plan as smooth as the finest Congolese coffee.

First, a touch of reality: winter in Virunga means cooler temperatures, ideal for trekking, but still pack layers! Expect average highs around 20°C (68°F) and lows around 10°C (50°F). Don't forget rain gear; it's the tropics after all! The park itself is a breathtaking tapestry of volcanoes, lush forests, and shimmering lakes, a habitat to the majestic mountain gorillas, among other wonders.

Before we delve into the specifics, let's talk logistics. I recommend a flight to Goma, DRC, then a pre-arranged transfer to the park headquarters. Budget approximately €500 - €800 per person for international flights and internal transfers. This cost is just an estimate as prices can vary by season and booking method.

Inside the park, expect a blend of rustic charm and adventure. Your accommodation will likely be in comfortable lodges near the park headquarters, offering a chance to connect with the park's spirit. Accommodation costs can range from €100-€200 per night per couple, and the price varies depending on the lodging's level of luxury.

Now, the heart of the matter: gorilla trekking. This is a once-in-a-lifetime experience! Expect to pay around €400 per person per trek. Remember, this supports crucial conservation efforts. The guides are exceptional; they’ll share fascinating insights about gorilla behaviour and the local ecosystem. Afterward, listen to the sounds of the forest, a symphony of birdsong and rustling leaves.

Let's not forget the culinary journey! Congolese cuisine is a vibrant mix of flavours. Expect hearty stews, delicious plantains, and cassava dishes. Budget roughly €50-€80 per day per couple for meals. This includes trying local specialities like "fufu" and “matoke.”

Beyond gorillas, there's much to discover in Virunga. Consider exploring Lake Kivu, known for its stunning beauty. You can also partake in community visits to learn about local traditions, crafts, and daily life – a powerful way to understand the human side of Virunga. Factor in an extra €100-€200 per couple for additional activities and spontaneous exploration.

The Congolese people are incredibly warm and welcoming, though it’s always wise to be respectful of local customs. Music, often rhythmic and lively, fills the air. You might find yourself swaying to the beat of traditional Congolese rhythms. Popular pets are cats and dogs, especially the indigenous ones.

Finally, the grand total. Considering flights, accommodation, gorilla trekking, meals, and additional activities, we’re looking at approximately €2500-€4000 per couple for a seven-day trip. This is a broad estimate; costs can fluctuate. Booking in advance, traveling during the off-season, and choosing more budget-friendly options can help.

This incredible journey will leave you with memories to last a lifetime. It’s an opportunity to see the breathtaking beauty of Virunga, support crucial conservation efforts, and connect with the amazing people of the Democratic Republic of Congo. Prepare for an unforgettable adventure!
